The visits that bishops had to make periodically to the Pope, to report on their dioceses and receive instructions,
are an excellent source of information on the perception of space. This document examines how the different prelates who succeeded each other in the 17th century viewed the territory of Murcia, including the town of Cieza.
This work reflects the changes in the landscape that occurred throughout that century and how it was perceived
by its inhabitants.
In the 17th century, the providential discourse was well established, but it left room for other ways of seeing the
world.
